From the shore of Anna Lake, below the brow of the hill on which the Retreat is perched, only a sliver of V House by Saunders Architecture is visible. The Retreat sits on the high end of a long, 2.07 acre lot, on the edge of the treeline. Large spruce trees provide shelter and screening from the road behind, while the topographical change from a height of 1,348 metres at the retreat site to 1,334 metres near the shore of Anna Lake and the length of the lot provide privacy at the front of the V House, where open grasslands drop off rapidly, revealing views of the Rocky Mountains from the main living space and the master bedroom. Residents will wake up to a spectacular view over Anna Lake each morning. A second bedroom suite has a more secluded feel, looking into the forest. The two bars of the V create a sheltered, courtyard-like space – a clearing in the woods with walls of tall trees forming two sides of the exterior space, providing the perfect place to enjoy a meal outside when Chinook winds are blowing.
